Becoming one of the most valuable aircraft during the war against Japan, the long-range Consolidated PBY Catalina patrol flying boats were operated by the RAAF from early 1941 and provided long range strike capability for the opening stages of the Pacific War. Completing a range of operations, these slow speed aircraft were flown at night, resulting in the aircrafts black painted exterior, and earning the name ‚¬Ã‹Å”Black Cats’.

This medallion features a Consolidated PBY Catalina patrol flying boat from Drew Harrison’s work Black Cat in the Shadows.
